Program Overview

Build foundational math and science skills in preparation for earning your bachelor’s degree in engineering at a four-year college or university. Coursework for this associate degree program covers the essentials of engineering, math, chemistry, physics and general education. Higher-level math and science classes are taught by instructors with master's degrees and beyond, and with class sizes averaging just 15-25 students, you’ll benefit from the individualized attention that the instructors are able to provide.

You'll learn:

Scientific theories and the scientific method
How to formulate and test hypotheses
How to collect, organize, analyze and interpret experimental data, and perform statistical and graphic analyses
Algebra, trigonometry and calculus as it applies to physics and chemistry
To analyze physics word problems, translate them to mathematical forms, solve them and communicate the results in writing
Laboratory equipment set-up to perform experiments using schematic drawings
Mathematical and logical modes of thinking and problem-solving

Meets MnTC Goal Areas 2 and 4. This course includes limits and continuity, derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals of algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions, and applications of the derivative and definite integral.

ENGR2230 - Mechanics of Materials

Credits:

3 (3/0/0)

This course provides an introduction to the study of stress, strain, deformation and failure of elastic bodies subjected to external forces. Topics include the relationships between the applied loads and the resulting stresses and deformations in an elastic body, stress-strain relations and the design of structural members subjected to known loads.
